SPOT ON
This season it’s a jungle out there.

The Autumn/Winter catwalks were inundated with animal influences from Alexander Wang’s use of deep toned open and closed spots on his A/W 2010 collections accent pieces to Dolce and Gabbana’s trademark sexy leopard print curve dresses. It would seem that the recurring leopard print trend is indeed the new black. Often thought of as a persistent sub trend, leopard is constantly evolving and exciting designers season after season.
This print has been the backdrop for numerous designers’ collections each season since its emergence in the sixties. Each season has brought about a new take on the much-loved print with covetable items. Smart chiffon shirts, bold winter shoe-boots and iconic statement bags, such as Mulberry’s reworked Bayswater, make up the foundations of this trend.
As Jackie Collins once said “my only weakness is wearing too much leopard print.” Channel Collins in mind but stick to one printed item at a time - think accent pieces such as leopard print pumps for daywear and a fully printed bold dress for the evening.
Designers such as Christian Louboutin use this print to create a shoe for the female who is more used to an urban jungle with a 5-inch heeled lace up bootie, complete with red sole to complement its ‘catty’ features. Whilst Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana have again shown that a leopard cannot change their spots, with good reason. The Autumn/Winter show highlighted new visions of their best work, the ultimate leopard print dress included. Body hugging yet flattering with delicate straps, this is the new Saturday night outfit.
This is not a trend for the light-hearted yet suits all ages and styles, with a little adjusting. The fancy free, frivolous fashionista should work it in a fill ‘catsuit’ of print whilst the tamer primate should opt for printed pumps and more minimal pieces found at high street favourites Reiss and French Connection.
Use animal instincts and mix and match the look with statement jackets combined with subtle, more refined, nods to this durable trend in the form of a printed scarf or skinny belt.

How to wear it:
An easy way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe is through accessories- a leopard hat, scarf or umbrella.
Team an understated evening dress with a show stopping faux fur leopard print coat.

Stylists tip:
Team with gold statement jewellery for a glowing colour palette.
